- Ch.2. Numerical Methods for ODEs
- Ch.3. Properties of Numerical Methods
- Ch.4. Finite Difference Methods for Elliptic Equations
- Ch.5. Finite Element Methods for Elliptic Equations
- Ch.6. FD Methods for Hyperbolic Equations
- Ch.7. Locally One-Dimensional Methods

Learning Objectives
- The course is concerned with
- Basic concepts in the finite difference and finite element methods
- Methods for parabolic and hyperbolic equations
- Analysis of stability and convergence
-
The emphasis throughout is on the understanding and
error/convergence analysis for numerical methods.
To help the students experience the state-of-the-art in numerical
methods and be better prepared for their profession, a few research
problems would be suggested; students should choose to solve one of them,
depending on their interests, and finish it as a project.
